Ekkerøy is a unique starting point for walks in a special open and flat landscape, the high sky and long horizons – often accompanied by a particular light. You may walk in the village and meet the locals or you can choose to enjoy the landscape by following the paths or just stroll freely. In Varanger you are free to go everywhere except on fenced in properties.
During the summer months Vadsø Museum has its buildings open. You can visit the old shrimp factory, a post-war apartment or the old fish oil steam-cooker. The museum has a small café in the old village shop. Have fresh waffles at the local café.
