We start the tour at the harbour in Vardø (a 45 minute drive from Ekkerøy), taking the ferry over to Hornøya. Hornøya is the easternmost point in Norway, further north than Nome, Alaska, and further east than Istanbul and Cairo, and it is the last piece of Norwegian land before the huge Barents Sea.
A visit to Hornøya is a visit to one of the wildest and most extreme places in Europe. It is also home to more than 80,000 nesting seabirds, and Varangers premier natural attraction. If you’re lucky, you might also see some killer whales off the coast!
Back at the mainland we’ll have lunch at Vardø hotel (not included). Later your guide will walk you around Vardø. For example Vardøhus fortress, built in the 1300 century, and the witch monument, where 91 people became victims of the witch trials in the 17th century.
